I have caught bass over 5 lbs, crappie over a pound, pike over 10 lbs. carp over 30 lbs, sheep head, gar and muskie.
It is a shame that the ministry wont stock walleye in this already amazing fishery.
Some spots to keep in mind, the hwy 406 bridge pillers for giant small mouth. The red barn off beaverdams rd for nice pike. as well as the ponds on either side of Marlatts rd.
So come on Niagra. Get down to Gibson lake and put a line in.

Re: Genocide in Niagara: Totem Pole Park DESTRUCTION!

Damn went to bring my Daughters and it was gone:( now where do I find them ?

Re: Abandoned Niagara Part 3: Jordan Harbour Train Trestle

Are you aware of any 'images': ie, photos, paintings, of the 1st/Great Western (1853) wooden trestle bridge across the Twenty-Mile Creek ? I have seen an 1854 photo of the Jordan Station Train Station, but can't find any of the original wooden trestle.
Would welcome the chance to view same if they exist

Re: Niagara Gorge: Niagara Glen to Niagara Falls Death Hike

Hi Chris. Thanks for the quick response. Last year (2011) I did the hike from the Niagara Glen metal steps to the boardwalk and back and thought it was great. At the time, I didn't know you could go beyond the boardwalk to the Falls. How would you compare the hiking from the boardwalk to the Falls compared to from the Glen to the boardwalk.

I've heard, but I'm not convinced that there are cameras under the bridges.
When we did this hike no one gave us a hard time about it until we popped up at the Maid of the Mist docks, and that was only because we came up beside their boats. They weren't sure what we were doing there.
The Niagara Parks only warned us about a possible trespassing charge after posting this blog.
In hindsight, I wouldn't do it again, and would recommend that you not do it either. We had a number of very close calls that nearly had us swept away in the river, or crushed under huge boulders.

Re: Niagara Gorge: Niagara Glen to Niagara Falls Death Hike

I am planning on doing the Whirlpool to Falls hike this spring. That being said, even I was sad to see the joint shut down. Although, there is something quite alluring to an abandonned, run down waterpark. Fantastic shots Bill!

Re: Abandoned Niagara Part 3: Jordan Harbour Train Trestle

The current Grand Trunk Railway-built bridge (now operated by Canadian National) was in service circa 1900. The first Great Western bridge, a wood trestle, was built in 1853. As you say, the stone pier bridge was built in 1867.

Re: Genocide in Niagara: Totem Pole Park DESTRUCTION!

so has it been relocated>>my granddaughter and i love to go to this park!

Re: Niagara Gorge: Niagara Glen to Niagara Falls Death Hike

Could have been any number of things I guess Bill. My theory and the theory of my friend Jim Brown who is a local historic is that its part of the Maid of the Mist smoke stack that was torn from the boat when it was taken through the rapids in 1961 to Lake Ontario as it had been sold.

Re: Niagara Gorge: Niagara Glen to Niagara Falls Death Hike

Hi! Thanks for the comment!
I didn't get in any trouble. The PR ladies at the Niagara Parks have warned me about trespassing a number of times after seeing these types of posts though. I'm sure if I was to be hurt or stuck down there for some reason and in need of rescue there would be a trespassing charge. Which would be deserved simply for the trouble of having to go down at get me. Really though, I think a trail should be developed and this area made safe that way.

Re: Niagara Gorge: Niagara Glen to Niagara Falls Death Hike

this is awesome....you've got some guts. love the shots they aren't terrible at all. especially the bridge pics. did you get in any kind of trouble for this? the niagara parks commission are pretty strict. back in the early 1800's a few exploreres made the same trek, however ended it by walking right behind the falls themselves..I guess you could've been crazier!
Also, I agree with Wolfmaan, this is a dog tick. In terms of lyme disease there's no reason for concern as they hardly ever carry it and they're even less likely to actually bite a human. But it's still very creepy to have them on you none the less.

Re: Marty Nearly Became the Mudman

DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS!!!

Re: Marty Nearly Became the Mudman

Hey Mike!

Here are the approximate coordinates: 43.04834, -79.10238
I didn't way-point the bridge, so these aren't exact. They're just an approximation based on my own sense of direction between where I went in to the woods with Marty and where we came out. The bridge was part of a path that ran closest to the road.

Hope this helps!

I was told if you have been bitten by a tick it is advisable that you send it away for testing, not only is it a precaution for yourself, but it allows the proper authorities to monitor the tick situation in Niagara and notify the public if need be.

Re: It’s that time of year…

me and my daughter and 4 friends went on a hike and we found ticks on us one bit my daughter it was gust about to go in her skin but the ticks were a red colour what should i do

Re: It’s that time of year…

They love all this rain we've been getting.
